The Solar Decathlon is the sustainable architecture competition with most international prestige. Technical Schools and universities around the world participate in it in collaboration with institutions and private companies, with the aim of designing, building and operating a housing prototype with the highest level of self-sufficiency, optimal cost and operating exclusively through solar energy.
MP has sponsored the Aura Project, carried out by students from the School of Architecture at the University of Seville (ETSAS) and the Santiago University of Cali, and which emerged as a proposal for the Solar Decathlon Latin America and Caribbean 2015 held in Cali (Colombia).
The project stems from a review of Latin architectural culture, applied to multi-dwelling social housing, from an environmental and sustainable view.
The organization undertakes that the winners of the SDLAC2015 will develop the first urban laboratory in the region and design a sustainable district in the actual city of Cali for about 3,000 homes.
The Aura Project is a sustainable social housing prototype that is self-constructed, self-sufficient in energy, adapted to a tropical climate and low cost.
The sponsored team took third place in the overall standings of the competition and first place in the communication category, first place in the Comfort category, third place in the Engineering and Construction category, third place in the Innovation category and an Honourable Mention in Architecture.
