International Women's Day 8M, 8 MP Women

Today, as every 8th. March, we commemorate International Women’s Day, which brings together women from all continents around the world, leaving behind borders, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, after more than ninety years of progress for equality, justice, peace and progress.

And we do it from the iron and steel sector, where the rate of women in traditional industrial activities is very low, since we are aware of this reality and, at the same time, participants in a true change towards equal opportunities and treatment for all people, regardless of their sex and age.

In MP, an increasing number of female engineers, computer scientists, technicians and operators are contributing in their day-to-day work to increase the representation of women in our sector. Women, full members of the labour market, such as Sara, Ana Isabel, Amelle, Markéta, Sanne, Patrycja, Elin or Alexandra, who today show their personal vision.

Happy International Women’s Day.

MP Lifts joins the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science will be celebrated to recognise the fundamental role played by women in the scientific and technological community. This is a special date in the MP Lifts calendar to promote the talent of the increasing number of women who make up our staff.

Among many others, there are technicians and engineers such as María Ángeles Vílchez, who began her professional career as a trainee student at MP Lifts more than 20 years ago. Nowadays, she’s part of our R&D&I department.

“In my class (Industrial Engineering in Electronics in Seville) there were 8 women and 92 men, for example. Twenty years ago, there would have been 15% of women in technical careers; now, according to recent articles, it is about 30%, explains María Ángeles.

“We must generate opportunities and encourage girls from a very young age”, she says, motivating girls and women who want to start at STEM world (Science, Technology, Engineering y Mathematics) to lose their fears and to gain confidence, because “they will have a wide range of professional options in the future”.

“It is a long-distance race in which they will learn thousands of things and, with passion, in the end, they will be able to achieve what they set out to do”.

Global Elevator Exhibition of Milan interviews Rafael Foncueva, Product Manager at MP Lifts

“Lifts, like other electronic devices designed to improve people’s lives, depend on the Internet of Things”

The Global Elevator Exhibition of Milan publishes an interview with Rafael Foncueva, Product Manager at MP Lifts.

What role will smart lifts play for the IoT ecosystem in building smart buildings and cities? thanks to which technologies and solutions?

“Elevators – explains Foncueva – like other electronic or electromechanical devices designed to improve people’s lives, depend on the Internet of Things. They are facilitating the creation of specific spaces and offering new functions.

The sphere of influence of the elevator includes residents of the building, technicians, owners or managers of the building and all the other people who occasionally use the service.

At the moment, the most developed services are aimed at elevator technicians, with the possibility to make use of monitoring systems with immediate alerts in case of failure, remote control and diagnostic tools, remote configuration services and even firmware updates of electronic equipment.

On the other hand, user services are less developed, although it is common to find screens in lifts offering a variety of information, as well as systems to call the lift from a mobile phone.

In the coming years, we will probably see the elevator as the core of IoT within the residential building, with the ability to provide services not only related to the elevator itself, but also to other devices in the building, such as entrance, garage, doors, air conditioning and lighting.

The connection to the entire network of elevators will provide valuable information for improving products and services, as well as establishing quality models based on comparative targets.

All these services are based on connecting the elevator to the Internet, either via the building’s Ethernet network or its own communication line. In Europe, where an emergency telephone is required by legislation, the phone line of the elevator can also be used as a data channel.

Nowadays the most widely used communication technology is 4G. Nevertheless, a widespread availability of 5G, with its much greater transmission capacity, will undoubtedly enable the development of new functions or a significant improvement of the existing ones”.

MP Lifts in the Andalucia Economica Ranking 2021

Ranking of the 1,200 largest companies in Andalusia’.

MP Lifts occupies 134th place in the Andalucía Económica export ranking by export volume.

On 31 May, the new ranking of the biggest 1,200 companies in Andalusia, which the magazine Andalucía Económica releases each year, was presented in Seville.

The state of alarm, brought in by the Spanish Government on 14 March 2020, as well as the restrictions on movement, suddenly brought the country’s economy to a standstill. However, the good news is that Andalusia’s economy performed better than the Spanish economy as a whole (-11%), due to its particularly strong agricultural, construction and service sectors. Nevertheless, its hospitality and tourism businesses did, of course, suffer.

MP Lifts came in at 134 on the ranking in terms of turnover.
